The State Administration of Market Supervision of the People's Republic of China recently released the latest results of the national supervision and spot check of office chairs. Among the 90 batches of products from 90 enterprises in 11 provinces and cities, 21 batches of products were unqualified, and the detection rate of unqualified batches was 23.3%. The unqualified office chair is either the base is broken or the casters fall off. There is also excessive formaldehyde and even the risk of explosion.
Problem 1: Poor air pressure rod may cause explosion
Among the unqualified products, office swivel chairs account for the vast majority, and 17 of the 21 batches of unqualified office chairs are swivel chairs.
The office swivel chair exploded
The pneumatic swivel chair uses a gas spring, which is commonly known as the air bar. The air bar is filled with inert gas. The adjustment button realizes the lifting and lowering of the seat through the change of pressure difference.
The air pressure rod will be used frequently in the process of use. If the safety is not qualified, it will not only affect the service life of the chair, but may even cause explosion.
Explosion cause: mostly caused by inferior air pressure rod
In this spot check, a number of tests were carried out for the safety of the air pressure bar. The results showed that the staff chair produced by a company was not qualified for high and low temperature resistance, and there might be an explosion risk under extreme conditions. The main reason is that the quality of the air bar is not up to standard.
According to industry insiders, at present, the quality of air pressure rods on the market is uneven, and the cost of one air pressure rod varies from a few yuan to dozens of yuan.
If the tube wall of the pressure bar is too thin, the inert gas is impure, or even the compressed air is used as the inert gas, it may cause the swivel chair explosion. In addition, the temperature of the seat is too high due to repeated frequent rise and fall during use, which may also cause explosion.
Explosion-proof steel plate is not installed, cutting corners
In order to prevent the explosion of the office swivel chair to the maximum extent, the effective protection method is to add a certain thickness of explosion-proof steel plate between the air bar and the swivel chair cushion.
It is reported that the thickness of the explosion-proof steel plate should not be less than 2 mm, in order to prevent the explosion of the air pressure rod in the process of use, which will cause damage to the human body through the puncture seat.
Problem 2: The pipe wall is thin and the strength is poor. The five-star
leg of the swivel chair will break
The base of some office chairs was broken during the inspection. According to the inspector, the five-star leg is an important part of the swivel chair and plays a role in bearing the weight of the human body. In order to save costs, the metal five-star pin thins the pipe wall a little, or uses a five-star pin with poor strength, which breaks during daily use, which may cause the user to fall.
The static load of the base of the office chair was also tested in this spot check. In the laboratory, the tester put pressure on the five-star foot, and the five-star foot cracked as soon as it was touched.
Problem 3: Excessive formaldehyde in office chairs can cause cancer
In this spot check, a batch of office chairs of a company were found to have unqualified formaldehyde emission. It is reported that long-term exposure to the environment with excessive formaldehyde emission will have a certain impact on the respiratory tract of human body, and even cause cancer.
According to the testing engineer, the office chair fabrics, fillers and wood-based panels may release formaldehyde. If the quality of these materials is not up to standard, it may lead to unqualified formaldehyde emission of office chairs.
Problem 4: Unqualified flame retardance of office chair contributes to
flame combustion
In addition, the most unqualified products are flame retardant. 11 batches of office chairs from 11 enterprises were found to be unqualified in flame retardance. These are all office chairs used in public places.
Public places are often places with concentrated population and complex buildings. If the flame retardance of office chairs is unqualified, it will not only fail to prevent the spread of the fire, but also promote the flame combustion, which may cause serious casualties.
