Office chair casters for different floor types
Office ergonomics is playing an increasingly important role in society. This also applies to office chairs. Seat height, armrest and seating area adjustability are very important for an ergonomic office chair. Fitting the right office chair casters is also crucial, as ill-fitting casters can have negative effects on health, the floor and the chair itself.
Ergonomic office chair casters must be suitable for the type of floor the chair will sit on. This general rule applies to all casters: use harder wheels for softer surfaces and softer wheels for harder surfaces. Therefore, soft ground casters have a harder wheel surface, which is very suitable for soft ground such as carpet. On the one hand, if the casters used on the carpet are too soft, the casters may gradually pick up fluff and eventually make it difficult to move. On the other hand, due to the particularly high rolling resistance of carpets, the use of too soft casters should be avoided as much as possible. But if soft floor casters are used on hard surfaces, they have the potential to scratch the floor.
Therefore, on hard ground, hard ground casters with soft wheel surfaces are generally used. This minimizes damage to the floor and reduces the noise of the casters running. If you are confused about which type of casters, hard ground casters and soft ground casters are also easy to distinguish: hard ground casters are usually two-color, while soft ground casters are single-color.
